Getting ready for 2015

Getting ready for 2015 season, starting on February (for me). New breeding cages and nest boxes, hoping this year will be the best comparing with the previous years. I will install the new facilities as soon as the time comes. 

Banding got easier

Second banding of the year. The lovebirds in cage C1 are bigger than those of C3 so it was expected for the young one to be next to get banded. I did the little trick with the toothpick in order for banding the little lovebird. Look at the picture how big it is. It is 11 days old.

Today i put the first ring. The lucky bird is a masked/fischer lovebird that is 13 days old. It was born on 13/12/2014 and of course it's a cutie, you can see it in the picture. The caption of the ring is "CAS 561 CY15 4.5 001". Looking forward for banding the remaining three masked/fischer lovebird babies in the next few days.

A week after the first egg

It's been a week from the day the first lovebird baby came out. I tried today to band it, but the leg was still small enough for the 4.5mm ring. Well, i will wait a little longer but i know that one of these close days the ring must be put on the first baby. They get bigger day by day!!! Amazing how fast they growing. Also, i don't think that the remaining two eggs are going to hatch, it's been a week after the first egg hatched. So, until now i have 4 beautiful baby lovebirds ready to put some feathers on. Stay tuned!

DNA Test for Ino

I took some feathers from the lovely mascot, Ino. You can see a video and some pictures below. After i find out about its gender, i will find another ringneck to pair them together, so they can give me more mascots!! This is getting really exciting!

More lovebird babies

Today, two more masked/fischer lovebirds got out of their egg One from cage C1 and one from cage C3. There are still one more egg in C1 and one more lovebird egg waiting to hatch in C3. I hope we can have a 100% hatching success.

First Masked/Fischer Lovebirds are emerged!

The very first newborns are out of their shell. I am so excited about it. The first one got out on last Saturday and the second one (i hope you can see it) today. There are two more eggs ready to hatch (i hope). In the first photo you can see the babies and in the other one you can see the very proud masked/fischer lovebird parents!

CAS Member

CAS 561

As from 2015, i am officially a member of Cyprus Avicultural Society (CAS) and i carry the number 561. The color of this year as you can see in the photo, is purple. I purchased some rings of 3.8, 4.0, 4.5 and 5.0 mm for budgerigars, exhibition budgerigars (English budgies), lovebirds and cockatiels respectively. I am planning to bring some parrots in the national annual exhibition in 2015. Starting from 2015, only birds that carry the breeder's own number can participate so it will be very interesting. The annual exhibition in 2015, i think it would be in November.
